Trading at NYSE/Membership

Exchange Membership


Process

Step 1: Qualify

Membership is available to SEC registered broker-dealers who have an established connection to a clearing firm. Individual investors are not eligible.


Step 2: Apply

Broker-dealers seeking membership to trade directly on any NYSE exchange must submit a completed Membership Application and Master User Agreement.


Step 3: Connect

Once completed forms have been submitted, the connectivity process can begin. Firms may connect to NYSE markets directly or through a Service Bureau.


Firm Applications & Forms

Application for membership to an NYSE exchange or to add a new type of business on an NYSE exchange.

User Agreement to be completed by all member firms.

​Existing member firm adding membership to another NYSE exchange.

Application for Market Maker Registration
Application to conduct Market Maker activities on an NYSE Exchange.

Required to identify member firm personnel authorized to conduct business with the NYSE Trading Operations Desk.

Form for an entity registering as an Approved Person.

Agreement between a member firm and a clearing member wishing to establish a new clearing relationship on an NYSE equities exchange.

Agreement between a member and a clearing member wishing to establish a clearing relationship on an NYSE options exchange.

Must be signed by the individual who will hold the permit and the member firm.

NYSE Trading License Application
Must be signed to effect transactions on the New York Stock Exchange trading floor or through any facility thereof.

Application for limited underwriting membership to NYSE and/or NYSE American Equities.


Individual Applications & Forms

Fo designation as Floor Clerk, Floor Broker, Floor Employee, Institutional Broker, Designated Market Maker, Nominee or Voting Designee on an NYSE Exchange.

For registration as a Market Maker Authorized Trader (MMAT) on NYSE, NYSE American, NYSE Arca, NYSE National, and/or NYSE Texas. Effective upon receipt of approval notice from the exchange.

NYSE Exchange Market Maker Orientation
Introduction to Market Maker access, obligations, requirements and order types for NYSE, NYSE American, NYSE Arca, NYSE National, and NYSE Texas. Individuals should review and certify understanding of policies and procedures set forth in the orientation presentation. A signed copy of the last page of the PowerPoint must be kept on file by the member firm. The Exchange does not require a signed copy.


Retail Forms

For a Member of NYSE, NYSE Arca, or NYSE American that would like to submit either Retail Orders or orders with a retail modifier that are eligible for retail-specific rates that may be offered by one or more NYSE Exchanges

For a Member of NYSE or NYSE National to participate in the Retail Liquidity Program (“RLP”) as a Retail Member Organization (“RMO”).

Retail Broker Dealer Customer Agreement
For Retail Liquidity Program (“RLP”) participants routing retail order flow on behalf of one or more broker-dealer customers.


Options Give-Up

Clearing firms may restrict their OCC registered clearing numbers for give-up business on NYSE options markets by submitting an Options Clearing Member Restriction Form.

Request for access to an unrestricted give up OCC#.

Clearing Firm request to apply a restriction an OCC#.

Member firm and clearing firm authorization for access to a restricted OCC#.


Membership Types

Floor Broker
Floor brokers are employees of member firms who execute trades on the exchange floor on behalf of the firm's clients. Floor brokers are physically present on the trading floor and are active participants during NYSE's opening and closing auctions.

Lead Market Maker (LMM)
LMMs have clearly defined quoting obligations that must be met on an ongoing basis. In addition to Market Maker Quoting Obligations, such as maintaining continuous two-sided quotes, LMMs must meet minimum performance requirements across a wide array of statistical metrics for each primarily listed ETP.

Market Maker
Market Makers are required to maintain minimum capital requirements and continuous, two-sided displayed quotes for all registered securities during Core Trading Hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET).

RMO and Retail Attested
Retail Member Organizations (RMOs) are eligible to submit certain retail order flow (Retail Orders) that is eligible for price improvement (available on NYSE and NYSE National) and/or Retail Attested order flow (available on NYSE, Arca and American).

Supplemental Liquidity Provider (SLP)
SLPs are electronic, high-volume members incentivized to add liquidity on the NYSE. An SLP can be either a proprietary trading unit of a member organization ("SLP-Prop") or a registered market maker at the Exchange ("SLMM").


Price Lists/Fee Schedules

Introductory program offering fee discounts on NYSE trading licenses, ports and market data products - available for qualifying new Member Firms.
